Jumbo 747 made in Hotel
Years ago Oscar Diös heard that there was an unused Boeing 747 built in 1976 at Arlanda Airport. This jumbo jet was used in the past by a Swedish airline called Transjet. He must have thought it was a wast not to use the airplane anymore, so he decided to turn it in a low-cost hotel. Building a hotel and getting cheap space is very difficult around an airport, but he managed to get permission from the authorities to ‘build’ his hotel close to the entrance of the airport.
Jumbo Hostel

Today, the Boeing 747-200 that is to become Jumbo Hostel was towed to its permanent parking place at the Stockholm-Arlanda Airport entrance. The airport will now have its first hostel, quite a necessity bearing in mind the 17-18 million travelers passing through the airport every year. Initiator and owner is Oscar Diös, today owner of a hostel in Uppsala. Arlanda will have a new landmark.

- It’s a fantastic feeling to place the aircraft at its new address just outside the airport. The location is well chosen considering how easily accessible it is with your own car, taxi, public transport, by foot or bicycle or with the shuttle buses from the car parks, says Oscar Diös.

For some months now, the grounds, leased from Luftfartsverket, have been remodeled into a parking area for the jumbo jet with casted concrete foundations and asphalt areas, oil separators, connections for water, electricity, and telecommunications and so on

The airplane will now be reconstructed inside, with staircases and an elevator set up .

- Arlanda will have a new attraction and a quite different alternative for spending the night. This will suit many categories of guests, such as families with children, young people and ”experience seekers” growing tired with the usual hotels, Oscar Diös adds. Already today we see a great interest with travel operators and tourist organizations across Europe and the USA.
